How to Get a Yahoo Domain Name for Your Small Business

These days, it's almost vital to have an online presence if you are a small business owner. Having your own website will allow your current customers to see what products and services you offer while attracting new potential customers, increasing your profits.

What is a domain name? In simple terms, a domain name is the address of a website (i.e., www.websitename.com). To go more into detail, each website domain name has a numeric address behind it, called the IP address. However, it would be really hard to remember even one IP address, much less remembering them for every website you wanted to visit! So instead of having to type in an IP address every time you want to visit a website, you simply type in the domain name which goes to the domain name servers (DNS) that translate the domain name to the IP address of the server that hosts your website.

Yahoo has been around since the early years of the internet, and is one of the top websites for purchasing domain names. In this article, I will show you how to get a Yahoo domain name for your small business.

Instructions

  1. Step 1
    Finding a Yahoo Domain Name
The first step towards getting your Yahoo domain name is to think about what domain name you want. The best domain names are short and easy to remember. Your domain name should reflect your business's name and possibly what sort of services or products you offer. Unfortunately, a lot of really good domain names are already taken (there's little chance that you'll be able to get www.smallbusiness.com, for instance), so you should be prepared to spend a little time searching for just the right domain name.

  2. Step 2
Once you have decided on a Yahoo domain name, go to the Yahoo small business webpage for domain names (see link below). Type in your domain name of choice into the text box and click on "Search". If the domain name is unavailable, you can look at similar domain name options or type in a different name.

  3. Step 3
After finding an available Yahoo domain name that you are happy with, it's time to sign up. Decide how long you want to register your domain name for (you'll have the option to renew it before it expires) and press continue.

  4. Step 4
Sign in with your Yahoo username (or create a new one), enter your payment information and review your order. Once you've confirmed your order, congratulations! You are now the owner of a new Yahoo domain name
