How to Transfer a Domain Name From Yahoo |

By Michelle CanevereHow Contributing Writer

When it comes to domains and registration, domain owners have many choices. Not only can they register a new domain from several providers, but they can also transfer a domain name from one provider to another. If you have a domain registered through Yahoo and have become unhappy with the service--or simply want a better price--then you may be looking to transfer a domain name from Yahoo. While some may think this would be a headache, it's actually not, provided you follow the correct steps for transferring a domain correctly.

Instructions
  1. Step 1
Wait at least 60 days since you purchased or transferred the domain from or to Yahoo. You can't transfer a domain sooner than this due to ICANN rules.
  2. Step 2
Unlock your domain by logging into the Yahoo Domain Control Panel and clicking the "Edit Domain Locking" link. Make sure the domain is unlocked.
  3. Step 3
Log into the administrative email address for the domain, as you'll need to be able to log into this account when the new domain provider sends you an email to confirm the transfer. This is necessary as you'll need to confirm the transfer before it is allowed to take place.
  4. Step 4
Locate your authorization code from Yahoo. You can do this via the Yahoo Domain Control Panel.
  5. Step 5
Contact your new domain provider to start the transfer process. You'll need to provide the new domain provider with your authorization code, as well as log into your email address for the domain. Follow the instructions given by the new domain provider to complete the process. You've now transferred the domain name from Yahoo.
