Register your website's domain name with Yahoo to make it easier for customers to find your website online - it's quicker and cheaper than you think.

Instructions

  1. Step 1
If you have decided to start a small business or have an idea for a website, one of the most important things you will need to do is come up with a good domain name. A domain name is the address that customers type into the address bar to get to a website. Many common domain names have already been taken, but there are a few more possibilities if you use an extension other than .com. For example, .net, .org, .biz, .info, and .us have becoming increasingly popular.

  2. Step 2
Go to http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/ and purchase a web hosting package. This is necessary for you to register your domain name (unless you are providing the web hosting services yourself). When you purchase the web hosting package from Yahoo, you will get the domain name, email and 24/7 tech support. If you are planning to sell items online, you may to consider purchasing a Yahoo Merchant Starter plan (which includes shopping cart software capabilities and site statistics, in addition to the domain name and web hosting platform). As of January 2010, Yahoo Merchant Starter plans start at $39.95 plus transaction fees which are a percentage of total sales (typically 1.5%).

  3. Step 3
Start promoting your website and products. There are various tools that Yahoo offers which helps you to drive traffic to your site and improve your search engine optimization.
